Response to Hornby “Nipple Jesus”

When Dave first looks the picture of Nipple Jesus, he loves it. However, when he gets closer to it and finds the artwork is made by lots of small nipple pictures, he thinks it is rude for Jesus and totally hates the artwork. But finally, after the whole day, he changes his mind again and considers it is an intelligent way to make the artwork brilliant. He even disappointed when the artwork is destroyed because he seems have fallen in love with the artwork. This kind of change reminds me how one’s opinion can change during the time. Most of the time, we people’s opinion will change because the change of time, emotion, environment and others’ opinion. It is often that we see someone have one hobby but as time goes on, he becomes crazy about another thing and totally forgets his love about the original ones.
One thing that confused me a little bit is people’s strong emotion towards the artwork. A Christian even throws eggs to the picture! All in all, it is only a piece of artwork. No matter what it consist of, the whole picture is still Jesus.

Response to Ono

Like the author in the article told us, Yoko Ono "clutters our view, inward and outward". The first two picture and video i found is the period when John Lennon was still alive. They are the perfect couple no matter in the stage or in their life. When he was gone and other tragic things happened to her, she just uses another way to express her lonely and sadness as an artist. Maybe her art could not be understood by most of people, but she got the attention from people and people can understand what she has experienced.

Such as the second video, before opening the video, i thought it was an ordinary cover song. But when her singing coming out, i even bothered to continue watching it. Thinking a while, i believe that this way is probably her own way to make art, to present the negativity, to speak out her inner voice although it may not so beautiful as others. So that's why the author said Yoko is a genius, an ultimate feminist, that she knows how to liberate herself. This article really arises my interests and i found there was no many difficulties for me to read it, instead, i looked up a lot of information from website and have a more deep understanding of John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

Micro Project 1

An image from the point of view of an ant

An image from the point of view of a bird

A stable image

An unstable image

My name on campus

The first ten pictures and the second ten pictures are all from my daily life. Also, they are taken from the perspectives i would like to present to other people. The difference i can think about is that the second group pictures needed more attentions to be taken. I need to find out like how to think as an ant in order to take the picture from the point of view of it. The last picture that show my name on campus is hard work, as my name is quite long and i took the most of time among ten pictures to finish it. And i used a picture software to edit it to make it like my name. Although it is a tough way, i found it is most enjoyable for me. It is a great opportunity for me to walk around the campus to find my name. I mean, i do it for my assignment but in the same time i relax myself a lot away from the heavy study burden and have a great time to take the trip in the campus. My favorite image is the radical one. It looks like a quite ordinary one but i just tried thinking hard to how to take a radical image. All of sudden, i saw my orange in my fridge and i said to myself, why not cut it in half and make it like a radical image. Then, i did it and this is how it presents.

Response to Walker and Barrett articles

Walker
The author in the article said that an big idea is not always the same as the theme and subject matter does not mean an big idea, which is really interesting. Actually, as for me, i always consider theme as the most important role in a art because the artists have to follow their theme. But now, I come to realize that there is big ideas that beyond the theme. Big idea is kind of a series of theme when they are creating their work. The author used the example of Motherwell's art. The theme of his series is death but the big idea is about human emotions. In addition, I think it is easy for us to tell the differences between subject matter and big idea. Subject matter is what the painting seems to talk about but big idea is the things the work really about. For example, if a painting is about sunflower, then sunflower is the subject matter. However, the big idea could be more diverse like happiness, strength, or anything that reflect the spirit of sunflower.
I do not find anything quite difficult for me to understand this article actually.

Barrett
In this article, black Sambo is an metaphor that reflects the stereotypes. Due to the feeling of fears, the racists may create the black images linked with violent tools like guns or knives. It is also possible that the racists claimed black men are good at sports while they are poor in brain. In some degree, this kind of situation presents envy and jealous. As a matter of fact, it is not rare in our daily life. One may spread a rumor that his colleagues or classmates are dangerous to make others convinced they are bad only because he feels threatened by their talent.
One thing that I feel a little confused is the example of Barthes' analysis of the Panzani spaghetti ad. In fact, I could not recognize how this ad reflect the distinction between denotations and connotations. From the article, I know the ad shows the freshness of the products and the Italianicity. Is the freshness means the denotations and Italianicity refers to connotations? I just think it does not illustrate the true meaning detailedly and appropriately.

Response to the Kidd, Hickey and Weschler

Kidd

First, when i saw the title of the book 'Cheese Monkeys', it really make me think that what is the relation between these two creatures. Then i read a section of the book, i still can not get why the author  use this abstract title. But it is really fun to read the section. The author represent the third dimension which can never be experienced by those who in two dimension. It is said that people in two dimension are poor whereas the other people in the fourth or fifth dimension are mock we are poor. So the universe is infinity and if in this case, even though right now we human beings are the ruler of the world, there exits another more advanced creatures are actually controlling us.

It also mentioned 'left to right, top to bottom, big and small'. It is like that everything has a connection with each other. As for me, i normally put Big important things in front of small less important things or i put title on top as i consider it is vital for readers to first know the overall theme in the following article.

Hickey

At the beginning of the article, it presented a classic NBA final game in 1980. Actually, I am not a big fan of NBA. I am not familiar with the basketball players, their team names, and the rules i knew are learned from high school PE class which are quite basic. But i do can feel the thrill moment when one basketball player is trying to field goal in the very last second in the game even when i have no idea which team is going to win. Still exciting !

In this text, it introduce the importance of rules formulation in the basketball game. It makes those great moments becoming possible and necessary or they are chaos that players do what they like to shot basketballs to get the score. More deeply, rules are inevitable in life. They let people behave well and the society has the right order.

Weschler

What surprised me in this article is that the process of digital animators is so complicated that even a glass of milk needs thousands of delicate work for the best effect in the movie. But i can not figure that why dinosaurs are easier than milk. In my point of view, dinosaurs such huge creature contains complicated body that when it moves, other part of its body related will change, either.

Also, i learned that 44 muscles on face are able to produce 5000 distinct expressions. This reminds me of a very popular American TV series 'lie to me'. Dr. Lightman, a Psychologist good at people's micro-expression, claims that people tell lies in every ten minutes and he could analyze criminals' facial expression and body language to attain the truth.
